Facebook and Cambridge Analytica

This is to do with the politicians with Brexit and Trump, manipulating users in an attempt to gain more voters.  The Daily Telegraph states, 'A whistleblower has revealed to the Observer how Cambridge Analytica – a company owned by the hedge fund billionaire Robert Mercer, and headed at the time by Trump’s key adviser Steve Bannon – used personal information taken without authorisation in early 2014 to build a system that could profile individual US voters, in order to target them with personalised political advertisements.' This company is a British political industry who have targeted millions of Facebook users to analyse their data such as web history and online tabs.
The issue with harvesting information is that its privacy regulations are being breached with users not being aware of this issue, thus spiralling huge interest in the media such as news broadcasts. An example of the latest use of Facebook was the US votes for presidency which it was hugely used to help Trump’s campaign by brainwashing them into wanting to vote Trump.
This information as stated is used without authorisation for which is illegal but due to the foreseeing eye not implementing this idea, it sorts of fades into the distance and gets swept underneath the carpet. 'WE MEDIA' a book written by Dan Gillmur states of the power and wealth in the media industry.
When news got out about Mark Zuckerberg’s incident, he had to publically apologise to keep Facebook at the top of its game.
The concept pus rules and regulations into total disruption as this betrays the whole point of having a vote. Consumers will now approach to democratic votes more cautious and aware as misleading ministers are now portrayed negatively. This also means that Facebook will now be viewed as a negatively portrayed website with the stock markets also dropping vastly.
